Daily Itinerary
Day 1 Thu., Sept 4 - Anchorage
Arrive in Anchorage. Afternoon free to explore Alaska’s largest
city on your own or relax. With 277,000 people, Anchorage
contains 42% of Alaska’s population and is about the size of the
state of Delaware. Meet your driver/guide and traveling group in
the evening at the “Welcome Reception.”
Day 2 Fri., Sept 5 - Anchorage - Talkeetna
Transfer to the rail depot where you’ll travel aboard the luxurious
glass-domed railcars of the McKinley Explorer. Enjoy breakfast
on board as you journey to Talkeetna, an eclectic town at the
junction of three rivers, where nature trails and optional activities
await you. Afternoon is free for optional activities such as
flightseeing and river tours. Overnight at the Talkeetna Alaskan
Lodge featuring a spectacular view of Mt. McKinley. [B]
Day 3 Sat., Sept 6 - Talkeetna - Denali
After breakfast, re-board the McKinley Explorer for a trip along
the base of the Alaska Range on your way to the 6 million acre
Denali National Park. Denali National Park is home to a variety
of wildlife including Dall sheep, caribou, moose, wolves, grizzly
bears, beavers, foxes and many more. Enjoy a sumptuous
dinner and homespun entertainment at Cabin Nite Dinner
Theater. Overnight in Denali. [B,D]
Day 4 Sun., Sept 7 - Denali
Enjoy breakfast with your group then set out for the Tundra
Wilderness Tour. Watch for big game and other Alaskan wildlife
as you explore the rugged but fascinating tundra of Denali. The
afternoon is free to participate in the park’s complimentary
activities. Jet boat rides or helicopter flightseeing are other
optional activities you can choose. [B,S]
Day 5 Mon., Sept 8 - Denali - Alyeska
Your day begins with a luxury motor coach ride to Portage Lake.
There you will board the MV Ptarmigan for an unforgettable
cruise that takes you within 300 yards of Portage Glacier. Along
the way you will stop for lunch on your own at the beautiful Lake
Lucille. Take a rest at the end of your day at the Alyeska Prince
Resort, which boasts a four-diamond rating. The evening is free
to enjoy optional tours such as a tram ride up Mt. Alyeska or a
superb meal. Overnight in Alyeska. [B]
Day 6 Tue., Sept 9 - Alyeska - Seward
After breakfast, travel by motorcoach to Seward for an adventure
cruise along the dramatic Kenai Peninsula coastline, broken by
misty glacier-carved fjords. You’ll enjoy lunch on board while
watching for whales, sea lions, porpoises and sea otters in the
water; mountain goats, moose and bears along the coast; and
bald eagles, puffins and many other bird species inhabiting the
cliffs and rocky shore. Overnight in Seward. [B,L]
Day 7 Wed., Sept 10 - Seward - Anchorage
Enjoy a hearty breakfast and then set off by motor coach to
Anchorage. You’ll have time to explore and have lunch on
your own before taking a tour of Alaska’s largest city. Stop
by the Alaska Native Heritage Center, where you can
experience Alaska’s many diverse native cultures, past and
present. Join your tour director and group this evening for a
farewell dinner at the Sourdough Mining Company.

Day 8 Thu., Sept 11 - Anchorage
Return flight home.
