Daily Itinerary

Norway Day 1 Sat., June 21 - Mpls/St.Paul - Trondheim
Depart Mpls/St.Paul on your transatlantic flight or request space from your home city upon registration.

Day 2 Sun., June 22 - Trondheim
Arrive at Værnes Airport Trondheim. Transfer to hotel in city center. Balance of day free to relax and adjust to time change. Welcome dinner and overnight at Radisson SAS Royal Garden Hotel. [D]

Day 3 Mon., June 23 - Trondheim
Morning sightseeing tour of Trondheim includes a visit to the Nidaros Cathedral, one of the most splendid cathedrals in Scandinavia. Afternoon free. Dinner on own. [B]

Day 4 Tue., June 24 - Trondheim - Stiklestad - Steinkjer
Drive to Stiklestad, site of the famous battle of 1030 which led to the death of King Olav Haraldson (later St. Olav) and the acceptance of Christianity in Norway. Tour the exhibition which includes a walk through history before and after 1030. Proceed to Steinkjer. Dinner and overnight at Quality Grand Hotel Steinkjer. [B,D]

Day 5 Wed., June 25 - Steinkjer - Brønnøysund
Drive to Namsos, an important trade center. Continue north to Holm. Ferry crossing to Vennesund. Weather permitting, hike to the legendary Mount Torghatten. Proceed to Brønnøysund. Evening introduction to farm and local history from the era of the Vikings until today. Visit the only herbarium (400 species of herbs) and vineyard in Northern Norway. In addition, the garden contains 500 species of roses and one of Norway’s largest collections of cacti and other succulents. Enjoy a 3-course meal in Viking tradition. Overnight at Thon Hotel Brønnøysund. [B,D]

Day 6 Thu., June 26 - Brønnøysund - Mosjøen - Mo I Rana
Enjoy the unique coastal scenery of Helgeland. With its 12,000 islands it is described as the most beautiful scenery in Norway. Ferry from Horn to Anndalsvågen and from Forvik to Tjøtta. Continue via Sandnessjøen to Mosjøen. Proceed to Mo i Rana over Korgfjellet, where we possibly catch a glimpse of Sweden. Dinner and overnight at Meyergården Hotel. [B,D]

Day 7 Fri., June 27 - Mo I Rana - Arctic Circle - Saltstraumen
Drive to the Arctic Circle, which marks the boundary of the midnight sun of the Arctic summer and the sunless winters of the north, as well as the northernmost extent of several species of flora and fauna, limited by the Arctic climate and a mountain range. The Arctic Circle Center in Lønsdalen provides a visual presentation of the flora, fauna and countryside north of the Arctic Circle. In Rognan visit the Blood Road Museum, portraying the plight of prisoners of war under the German regime from 1942-45. Continue to Saltstraumen, site of the strongest maelstrom in the world. People from all over the world come to see the amazing whirlpools. Dinner and overnight at Saltstraumen Hotel, located practically on top of the maelstrom. [B,D]

Day 8 Sat., June 28 - Saltstraumen - Kjerringøy - Bodø - Svolvær
Morning excursion to Kjerringøy, an old trading post providing an insight into the region’s history and culture. With its wellpreserved buildings from the end of the 19th century, it is one of Norway’s most important and charming architectural monuments. Proceed to Bodø. Board the coastal voyage ship M/S Nordlys and cruise the Vest Fjord to Svolvær in the spectacular Lofoten Islands. Dinner served on board. Overnight at Rica Hotel Svolvær. [B,D]

Day 9 Sun., June 29 - Excursion in Lofoten
Full day sightseeing in breathtaking Lofoten includes the Viking Museum at Borg, Nusfjord, a 19th century fishing village on the UNESCO list of historic monuments, and the fishing village with the enigmatic name of Å at the southernmost point of Lofoten. Lunch en route. Return to Svolvær for dinner and overnight at hotel. [B,L,D]

Day 10 Mon., June 30 - Svolvær - Harstad
Drive north to Fiskebøl. Ferry across the Vesterål Fjord to Melbu in Vesterålen. With a gentler landscape and richer farmlands than Lofoten, the Vesterålen Islands, known for their fishing, have a landscape ranging from marshlands to farms to craggy mountains and white beaches. Continue via Sortland to Harstad on Hinnøya, Norway’s largest island. Prior to arrival in Harstad visit the military museum, Trondenes Fort, for a brief presentation on the Nazi activities in Northern Norway during World War II. Dinner and overnight at Grand Nordic Hotel Harstad. [B,D]

Day 11 Tue., July 1 - Harstad - Tromsø
At 9:45am board the express boat M/S Fjorddronningen. Cruise the Vågs Fjord and continue past Finnsnes to Tromsø, the capital city of Arctic Norway, also known as the “Paris of the North.” Following disembarkation at 12:10pm, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Tromsø including the Arctic Cathedral, Tromsø Botanical Gardens and the Polar Museum. Balance of afternoon at leisure. Farewell dinner and overnight at Radisson SAS Hotel Tromsø. [B,D]

Day 12 Wed., July 2 - Tromsø - USA
Tour ends following breakfast. Transfer to airport for return flight. Longer stays may be requested upon registration for an additional charge of $50. Inquire about independent tour extensions. [B]
